GUIMARAS – A house in Barangay Sawang, Buenavista was partially damaged due to a landslide on Sunday, July 16.

The house is owned by couple Eden and Joan Somodio.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said the couple’s two children barely made it out of the house around 9:12 a.m. before a massive rock fell.

The Buenavista MDRRMO conducted a preemptive evacuation of 11 other houses, composed of 12 families or 42 individuals, from the area. The ground softened with intermittent rains.

Other landslide-prone areas in Buenavista were alerted and, if necessary, do a preemptive evacuation.

Police Major Jeffrey E. Ferrer, chief of police of Buenavista, appealed to the residents to follow MDRRMO directives.

“Aton ginkordon ang area para ang mga pumoluyo indi na makalapit kag magluwas sina gin-abisohan ang mga tawo nga temprano pa kuhaon ang mga gamit para makahalin sila temporary sa evacuation center,” said Ferrer.

Inclement weather due to the southwest monsoon, or habagat, was enhanced by Tropical Storm “Dodong” (International name: “Talim”)./PN
