ILOILO City – A 20-foot container van accidentally fell from a cargo ship at the Iloilo Commercial Port Complex in Barangay Loboc, La Paz on Tuesday afternoon, July 25.

The container van, loaded with furniture and owned by Moreta Shipping, accidentally fell during the discharging of MV Moreta Venture.

Coast Guard-Iloilo station commander Paterno Belarmino Jr. told Panay News the ship was from Manila.

A crane was discharging the container van when it fell.

“Naka-contribute guro sa incident ang mabaskog nga hangin,” said Belarmino.

But he added: “Ang crane operator wala niya mapansin nga may naka-attach didto sa container so pagbuhat niya na out balance.”

Moreta Shipping coordinated with a tugboat and other concerned agencies and rescue groups.

The container van was retrieved and is currently on the shoreline of Barangay Sapao, Dumangas, Iloilo./PN
