ILOILO City – West Visayas State University (WVSU) remains the best university in Western Visayas despite its national ranking having declined by two notches in the July 2023 report of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities by the Cybermetrics Lab.
Webometrics is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Consenjo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas, the largest public research body in Spain.
From 15th place on January 2023, WVSU in Iloilo City placed the 17th best university out of 367 Higher Education Institutions in the Philippines and ranked 5165th in the world.
To recall, WVSU also placed 17th on the July 2022 report.
Despite its decline, WVSU is also the 4th best university in the entire Visayas after the University of San Carlos (rank 9), Visayas State University (rank 10), and Cebu Technological University (rank 12).
Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) has also declined from its 19th spot last January and is now ranked 26th in the country.
UPV is followed by the following universities in Western Visayas that managed to break into the country’s Top 100:
* Central Philippine University (rank 64)
* Aklan State University (rank 78)
* University of Saint La Salle Bacolod (rank 80)
* University of San Agustin (rank 88)
WVSU is envisioned to be the leading research university that advances quality education towards societal transformation and global recognition; thus, its faculty’s publication of scientific researches is viewed as one of the reasons that continue to enhance the university’s ranking.
The rankings are based on the following indicators: the university’s impact, transparency or openness, and excellence./PN
