AKLAN – A barangay tanod in Malinao town is facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
A .22 pistol, a .22 airgun, a .38 revolver, a magazine of a .45 pistol and 23 live rounds of ammunition were recovered from 54-year-old Sonny Iyoyo Sr. of Barangay San Dimas.
A search warrant was served by the operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Aklan Provincial Field Office in coordination with the 1st Aklan Provincial Mobile Company, Provincial Intelligence Unit and Malinao Municipal Police Station around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1.
Executive Judge Bienvenido Barrios Jr., of the Regional Trial Court in Kalibo, Aklan issued the search warrant on July 31, 2023.
“May confidential information, mga two weeks ago galing sa kanyang pamilya, na may mga unlicensed firearms na tinatago ang suspek sa kanyang bahay. Agaran tayong kumuha ng search warrant,” said Malinao acting police chief Captain Donie Magbanua. “Pagdating natin sa kanyang bahay, tulog pa ang suspek. Naging maayos naman ang operasyon.”/PN
