Ilonggo Palaro medalists to get cash incentives

ILOILO – Cash incentives await athletes from Iloilo who bagged medals in the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa 2023 in Marikina City.

“May ara [incentives] galing gina-supplemental budget pa naton ang una nga incentive (referring to the incentive of athlete-medalists during the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet 2023 in Aklan),” said Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.

Provincial Ordinance No. 2020-217 states that the incentives are in recognition of Iloilo provincial athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, and chaperones who excel in sports competitions sanctioned by the Department of Education (DepEd), Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

“In consonance with the national government’s policy, the provincial government of Iloilo do hereby recognize those athletes and their coaches who excel in different sports events/competitions, especially those who brought pride and honor to the province, by giving awards and recognition as a form of appreciation of their achievements,” read part of the provincial ordinance.

For Palarong Pambansa, below are the respective cash incentives to be received by the athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, chaperones, and trainers.

For athletes

* Gold – P8,000

* Silver – P6,000

* Bronze – P4,000

For coaches

* Gold – P8,000

* Silver – P6,000

* Bronze – P4,000

For assistant coaches

* Gold – P5,000

* Silver – P4,000

* Bronze – P2,500

For trainers

* Gold – P8,000

* Silver – P6,000

* Bronze – P4,000

For chaperones

* Gold – P3,000

* Silver – P2,000

* Bronze – P1,000

Athletes receiving the reward and recognition must meet the following requirements:

* must be a Filipino citizen

* must be a bonafide resident of Iloilo and must have duly represented the province in the sports competitions in which he or she participated

* has brought pride and honor to the province because of his or her achievement

* a gold, silver, or bronze medalist or a combination thereof in regional, national, and international competitions in any sports discipline event recognized and sanctioned by the DepEd, Philippine Sports Commission, and Philippine Olympic Committee

* must either be in individual, dual or team events

The documentary requirements are the following:

* certified true copy of birth certificate issued by the Philippine Statistic Authority

* barangay certification of residency or voter’s affidavit

* valid ID of the awardee(s)

* if the athlete is a minor, parents or guardians’ voter affidavits and a valid identification card are required

* proof of winning (medal, trophy, certificate of award, and awarding ceremony picture)

Western Visayas won overall first runner-up in the Palarong Pambansa 2023, which concluded on Saturday, Aug. 5. It clinched 60 golds, 45 silvers and 44 bronzes (both elementary and secondary levels).

For Demo Sports, the region garnered 13 gold medals, eight silver medals and two bronze medals, while for Para Games there were 27 gold medals, 13 silver medals and six bronze medals.

A total of 813 delegates from the region were sent to the national games – 539 athletes; 131 coaches, assistant coaches, and chaperons; and 143 technical working group members./PN
