AKLAN – Damage from a structural fire in the coastal barangay of Tambak in New Washington, Aklan, on Tuesday afternoon was pegged at P1,029,000. Luckily, no one was injured.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-New Washington responded to a fire call at 12:52 p.m. at the popular Tambak Talabahan along Jaime Cardinal Sin Avenue.

Three structures made of light materials were in flames – Kittleman’s Seafood Grill and Restaurant, Alcedo Café and Recreation Center and a residential house.

The blaze also partially damaged Manobo Grill.

The fire, fanned by strong winds, forced BFP-New Washington to raise a second alarm.

BFP-Kalibo, Banga and Numancia were dispatched to aid.

Rescuers from the New Washington Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Saint Gabriel College-Emergency Medical Services and Rescue, and the New Washington municipal police station also responded to the fire call.

A “fire under control” was declared at 1:15 p.m. and a “fire out” at 1:30 p.m.

Arson investigator Fire Officer 2 Enrico Nam-ay said the fire started in the kitchen of Kittleman’s Seafood Grill and Restaurant.

However, the BFP has yet to establish the cause.

“Napansin ng mga staff na may apoy sa itaas, sa may chimney ng establishment,” he said./PN
