Mistaken identity? Driver shot dead in Escalante

BACOLOD City – A driver was shot dead in what the police believed could be a case of mistaken identity in Sitio Beatingo, Barangay Old Poblacion, Escalante City Negros Occidental.

The 34-year-old John Mark Sotto of Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City, was bound for Cebu City.

According to Sotto’s wife, the victim had an identical twin. The police thus believed the victim may have been mistaken for his brother, said Police Major John Ganzon, Escalante City police chief.

Past 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13, a gray vehicle stopped behind Sotto’s freezer van. The unidentified gunman, wearing a black shirt and a facemask, got out and approached Sotto.

The gunman asked Sotto if he had spare water, claiming his car overheated.

After Sotto replied he did not have any, the gunman pulled out a .45 pistol and shot the victim multiple times.

The investigation is ongoing. (Watchmen Daily Journal)
