ILOILO City – Capiznon Piepet Prebillo and Ilonggo Peter Molina captured gold medals in athletics of the 2023 ROTC Games Visayas Leg on Tuesday at the Iloilo Sports Complex here.

Prebillo, a 20-year-old cadet from Filamer Christian School of Capiz, captured the first-ever gold medal in the competition. She topped the women’s 200-meter run in 27.91 seconds.

“Hindi ko po ini-expect na manalo. Ginawa ko lang po best ko,” said Prebillo. “Masaya po ako na meron na ganitong tournament kasi po nakikila namin at naka-bonding ang ibang mga ROTC sa iba-ibang schools at regions.”

The 20-year-old Molina, who is a standout from Western Visayas State University, took home a gold medal in the men’s 200-meter run event after finishing the race in 23.50 seconds.

“Hindi ko na po inaasahan sana ‘yung gold medal kasi nakita ko na malalakas din ang nakapasok sa finals. Inisip ko na lang po na kaya ko ibigay ang best ko dito sa event ko,” said Molina.

Prebillo, a second-year student of BS Criminology, expressed gratitude in the revival of the Reserved Officers’ Training Corps. (ROTC) as it will help mold the younger generation to be a good citizen of the country.

“It is good that our officials have decided to revive the ROTC because this will help the students become good leaders and shy away from temptations of vices,” said Prebillo.

Meanwhile, cadets from University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos of Bacolod City also made their presence felt in the first day of the competition with two gold medals in the 4×100 meter relay event.

The quartet of David Paul Balagat, John Lloyd Moreno, Romeo Constancio and Christian Sericon captured the men’s 4×100 meter relay gold after submitting a time of 49.6 seconds.

The group of Angelica Pacaro, Marla Jean Pacaro, Ciara Largavista and Jocel Talaver, on the other hand, snagged the first place in the women’s 4×100 meter relay in 57.7 seconds./PN
