ILOILO City – The city government has always been supportive, very responsive and on-call, according to one of the metro’s biggest investors, Megaworld Corporation.
In an official statement hailing Mayor Jerry Treñas’ State of the City Address (SOCA) yesterday, Megaworld said the city’s leadership made it possible for investors to enjoy utmost ease doing business in this southern city.
“The city has provided us with unparalleled security in our 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park township as we continue working together to attract people and investments into the city’s modern central business district,” Megaworld further said.
It added that this is also why they have donated land inside their township that will host one of the Iloilo City Action and Response (ICARE) Centers, a flagship disaster risk and reduction management project of Mayor Treñas.
The undertaking supports the city’s aim of becoming a resilient city in the Visayas by reinforcing its ability to respond to emergencies and urgent situations.
“We are excited for the future of Iloilo as we continue to build more in this award- winning township,” Megaworld added.
Treñas also earned praises from fellow city officials.
Councilor Sedfrey Cabaluna said Treñas clearly laid down the city government’s achievements, programs and projects delivered since 2019.
He also commended the mayor for being forward-looking and always finding ways to do better such as through the newly-unveiled development road map dubbed “Iloilo City…The Way Forward”.
“Kay ti ang pag progreso sang syudad kinanglan planuhan gid sang insakto. There must be a direction,” said Cabaluna.
He added: “(There’s) a lot to dream about pero dreams nga doable. Dreams nga kon buloligan ta ma-achieve naton.”
As chairman of the Committee on Transportation in the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Cabaluna said he is happy of the mayor’s plan for the traffic sector.
“Hopefully, we can make it happen. We will work with the mayor and all the sectors to make it happen,” he said.
Meanwhile, Councilor Irene Ong said what Treñas mentioned in the SOCA were proof that the city improved under his leadership.
“I believe the city will continue to go up under Mayor Treñas’ stewardship,” said Ong.
Councilor Johnny Young was also all praises to the city mayor. He give Treñas a perfect score of 100 percent.
“Ginadayaw ta gid. Ginpakita ya ang mga achievements kag mga plano pa para sa syudad sang Iloilo, ang iya vision and action,” said Young.
In his SOCA, Treñas gave the credit back to the Ilonggos.
“It is the spirit of the Ilonggos, your dedication, resilience and passion that is shaping our city’s destiny,” Treñas said.
He urged the Ilonggos: “We should not be resting on our laurels but rather push forward with renewed vigor.”
“The road ahead may hold challenges, but I am confident that there is no obstacle we cannot overcome,” said Treñas./PN
