ILOILO – As of Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 29, no major damage to infrastructure was reported following torrential rains that resulted in flooding in several parts of the province.
All 43 towns, including Passi City, reported zero casualties or missing, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) headed by Dr. Jerry Bionat.
There were landslide recurrences in Barangay Tiolas, San Joaquin and mountainous barangays of Leon but the Department of Public Works and Highways (DWPH) immediately cleared the debris.
As per PDRRMO monitoring, there were no major overflows of river systems aside from flooding in low-lying areas and farmlands.
Reports on agricultural damage may come in the coming days but Bionat expects them to be minimal as most farmers have already harvested their crops.
Meanwhile, 384 families, or 1,513 individuals, stayed evacuated on Monday, Aug. 28 — Guimbal (33), Oton (55), Leganes (659), Leon (40), Badiangan (five), Lambunao (80), Mina (262), Pototan (227), Dingle (105), Passi City (47).
“Ini sila ang nag-preemptive evacuate, be it sa evacuation centers, sa ila barangay hall or covered gym, but some of them nakabalik naman, except sa Leganes nga nabal-an ko manubo nga bahin ang ila mga kabalayan,” Bionat told Panay News.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. ordered rescue vehicles and rescuers on standby at the Iloilo provincial capitol grounds in case local governments needed augmentation.
Food packs, sacks of rice, and ready-to-eat meals were also prepared./PN
