Classes in Iloilo City remain suspended today

ILOILO City – Monday’s suspension of face-to-face classes from preschool to senior high school in both public and private schools in this southern city due to inclement weather has been extended up to today, Aug. 30.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas approved the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) “to ensure the safety and general welfare of children and the residents of the city.”

Meanwhile, the suspension of classes in the college level has been left to the discretion of school administrators.

Iloilo City is forecast to continue experiencing occasional light to moderate with at times heavy rains and cloudy skies, with a projected 50 mm of rainfall accumulation.

Based on the state weather bureau bulletin, the enhanced southwest monsoon will also continue to bring gusty conditions. A Gale Warning is in effect along the seaboards of Visayas.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the Iloilo City Emergency Operations Center recorded a total of 89 flooded barangays and 12,050 affected individuals./PN
