ILOILO City – Over P1.6 million worth of food and non-food items have been released to families affected by the southwest monsoon or habagat enhanced by “Typhoon Goring” in Western Visayas.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 shelled out P1.095 million while the remaining P602,190 were provided by local government units (LGUs) and non-government organizations (NGOs).
According to Regional Director Carmelo N. Nochete, DSWD-6 responded to the needs of the affected families.
“Prior this, we placed goods in strategic locations so that these can reach the people at the shortest time possible,” he added.
Here’s the breakdown of the assistance:
* P103,412 worth of goods for affected families in Valderrama, Antique
* P127,729 worth of goods for Guimbal, Iloilo
* P253,470 worth of goods for Oton, Iloilo
* P50,200 worth of goods for Pavia, Iloilo
* P411,341 worth of goods for Bacolod City
* P148,975 for Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental
Nochete also said DSWD-6 has sufficient stockpile of relief goods – 13,522 family food packs worth P6.9 million and P40.9-million worth of non-food items at the regional warehouses and strategic sites.
There is also a P5.9-million standby fund, he said.
Meanwhile, Disaster Response Management Division chief Judith Tanate recently coordinated with the National Resource Operations Center to ensure sufficient supply for Western Visayas.
As of 12 noon of Aug. 29, DSWD-6 logged 1,895 displaced families composed of 74,255 individuals from 243 barangays.
Data also showed that 5,957 families (20,966 individuals) moved to various evacuation centers while 1,405 families (or 5,994 individuals) stayed with relatives and/or friends./PN
