ANTIQUE – Hundreds of families were affected by heavy rains and strong winds brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat, in the municipality of Sibalom in the province of Antique.
Thus, Resolution No. 126-2023 declaring a state of calamity was issued on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 29.
The southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon ‘Goring’ (international name: Saola) brought flooding and erosion to the entire municipality, damaging crops and road infrastructure, according to the resolution.
As of Tuesday, 510 families were affected, or 1,819 individuals, from barangays District II, Nagdayao, San Juan, Odiong, Pis-anan, Villahermosa, San Juan, Iglanot, Panlagangan, and Alangan.
As of this writing, only Sibalom has declared a state of calamity in Antique.
Meanwhile, the entire province had 2,994 families evacuated, or 11,168 individuals, from 114 barangays, data from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 6 as of Tuesday night showed. The breakdown is as follows:
* Anini-y – seven families or 17 individuals
* Barbaza – 108 families or 414 individuals
* Belison – 13 families or 65 individuals
* Hamtic – 664 families or 2,671 individuals
* Laua-an – 169 families or 826 individuals
* Patnongon – 323 families or 1,248 individuals
* San Jose de Buenavista – 245 families or 740 individuals
* San Remigio – 134 families or 554 individuals
* Sibalom – 1,006 families or 3,563 individuals
* Tobias Fornier – 17 families or 80 individuals
* Valderrama – 308 families or 1,000 individuals
There were 10 houses damaged.

* Barbaza – one partially damaged
