ILOILO City – A 40-year-old pedicab driver was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Taft North, Mandurriao district around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31.
Suspect Alfred Cortez of Zone 1, Barangay Cubay, Jaro district, was brought by the Station Drug Enforcement Team to the Mandurriao police station.
Cortez sold a plastic sachet of suspected shabu to a police poseur buyer for P4,500.
More or less five grams of suspected shabu valued at P34,000 were seized, police said.
“After almost two weeks nga pag-monitor naton, natigayon naton nga madakpan si Cortez,” said Mandurriao police chief Captain Val Cambel in an interview with Radyo Bandera Iloilo.
Cambel also said Cortez had served jail time for theft and the suspect’s drug supply is believed to be sourced from Jaro.
“Nagakuha ni sia sa distrito sang Jaro, and we are sure nga kaagi ni sia preso sa pagpangawat,” Cambel added.
The suspect is facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
