BACOLOD City – Two aspirants who earlier filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) signified not to run anymore for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) on Oct. 30 after submitting their statement of withdrawal to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in this city.
The two, both from Barangay Mansilingan, submitted three copies of a notarized statement of withdrawal to the Comelec during the last day of COC filing in Robinsons Place-Mandalagan.
The filing of the COC was held from Aug. 28 until Sept. 2.
Comelec officer Kathrina Trinio-Caña said the barangay kagawad aspirant will go to Manila, while the SK kagawad aspirant is the incumbent SK treasurer.
The Comelec officer clarified that substitution is not allowed during the BSKE because candidates have no political party.
Meanwhile, six aspirants for barangay captain are unopposed. They were from barangays 7, 15, 24, 25, 32, and 36.
Also unopposed are aspirants for SK chairman and SK kagawad in barangays 24 (with 4 kagawads only), 36 and 37, as well as the SK kagawad aspirants in barangays 25 and 34.
Trinio-Caña said the six-day COC filing was peaceful, and the Comelec only encountered minor problems with the COC forms./PN
