Bacolod JOs to run in BSKE deemed resigned

BACOLOD City – About 100 job order (JO) casual employees of this city were deemed to have resigned after they filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the October barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

City Administrator Pacifico Maghari III confirmed that the JOs reported their candidacy to the Sectoral Affairs Office.

Maghari assured the public that the discontinued service of the said employees would not affect the services of the city government.

As of this writing, Bacolod has about 3,500 JOs.

Atty. Kathrina Trinio-Caña, Commission on Elections (Comelec) officer in this city, earlier said a JO or appointed government employee running for the BSKE would have to resign.

Article VI, Section 39 of the Omnibus Election Code states that “any elective or appointive municipal, city, provincial or national official or employee, or those in the civil or military service, including those in government-owned or controlled corporations, shall be considered automatically resigned upon the filing of a COC for a barangay office.”

Meanwhile, if an aspirant is a private employee, the company has discretion./PN
