BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City government will relocate fire victims of Purok Tangkong, Barangay 7.
“Ang pamalay ara sa dalan gane isaylo sila sa relocation site [in Barangay Vista Alegre],” said Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez yesterday, Sept. 11.
The Bureau of Fire Protection had difficulty entering the fire scene on Saturday night, Sept. 9, as houses occupied the roads.
“We discussed this yesterday with the families affected. Ang road lots, dalan na supposedly, gin-patindungan nila sang ila mga balay. If there is no road, how can the fire trucks enter the area?” the mayor said.
The city Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) reported that the fire affected 66 families composed of 331 individuals.
Property losses include 38 totally damaged houses and two partially damaged ones.
A financial assistance of P15,000 each will be given to those with totally damaged houses and P10,000 for partially damaged houses.
The nearly two-hour blaze allegedly originated from the house of a certain Frederico Lumayno due to unattended cooking using butane fuel, according to Chief Inspector Stephen Jardeleza, fire marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection in this city./PN
