ILOILO City – An employee of the City Health Office (CHO) is under investigation over the alleged non-release of cash incentives for barangay nutrition scholars (BNS).

Mayor Jerry Treñas said a cash advance was made for the incentives totaling P50,000 but it was not distributed to the BNS.

“If found to be true, proper administrative and criminal charges will be filed against the person concerned,” Treñas added.

He declined to identify the employee for now.

The city mayor further warned city government employees who may be facing probe due to wrongdoings to better resign.

“For those employees who are about to be investigated for wrongdoings in connection with their work, an honorable option is for them to resign immediately. Otherwise, I will not hesitate to let the full force of the law take its course. If there are funds that need to be returned, proper retribution should be made. Life is difficult for everyone. But you have no right to make it more difficult for us,” Treñas said.

The city mayor is set to meet with the executive assistants and department heads to get reports, as well as with Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon and city councilors, Iloilo City Police Office and Bureau of Fire Protection-Iloilo City.

Treñas is scheduled to be back in office today after an official trip to Vienna, Austria to serve as a panelist in the United Nations Industrial Development Organization forum on Sept. 4 to 5./PN
