BACOLOD City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Occidental is stepping up its preparations for the Oct. 30 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE).
The selection of members of the Election Registration Board (ERB) and canvassing board is ongoing, according to Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria, provincial elections supervisor.
Seminars and training sessions will be conducted in the coming weeks.
Ananoria also said some election paraphernalia, such as non-accountable forms, have already arrived, while others have been directly sent to the cities.
However, some materials at the provincial Comelec office still need to be collected by the election officers.
Ananoria also said those serving during the election will receive their wages on time, but they will not be tax-free.
Some members of the ERB who have relatives running for the October polls will be reassigned to other villages.
As part of the ongoing preparations for the BSKE, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) earlier reassigned over 200 police non-commissioned officers and a city police chief.
Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo, NOCPPO spokesperson, said it was to safeguard the peace and order situation and comply with the Omnibus Election Code. (Watchmen Daily Journal)
