ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Eighty-two candidates for punong barangay in the province’s 473 villages will run unopposed in this Oct. 30 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE).
Based on Commission on Elections (Comelec) data, the unopposed candidates were from Roxas City (eight) and the municipalities of Cuartero (two), Dao (two), Dumalag (two), Dumarao (four), Ivisan (five), Jamindan (nine), Maayon (seven), Mambusao (four), Panay (five), Panitan (five), Pilar (two), Pontevedra (two), President Roxas (eight), Sapian (one), Sigma (four) and Tapaz (12).
Comelec-Roxas City election officer and lawyer Rommel Benliro added that 50 aspirants for SK chairperson have no opponents.
A unity walk and peace covenant signing will be spearheaded by concerned local police stations in partnership with their Comelec counterparts for peaceful, orderly, and honest elections.
“In Roxas City, we have scheduled the unity walk and covenant signing on Sept. 25. Other towns have already done it, while others are also to schedule based on the availability of the candidates,” Benliro noted.
The province’s registered voters for the BSKE reached 752,068, which included 551,707 voters for the barangay polls and 200,361 for the SK polls. (PIA Capiz)/PN
