ILOILO – Classes at Janiuay National Comprehensive High School in Janiuay town were temporarily suspended following reports of alleged mass hysteria.
Yesterday, 13 students displayed symptoms such as seizures, nausea, vomiting, and, in some cases, loss of consciousness.
One student was rushed to the hospital due to an asthma attack.
“We cannot ascertain [the cause],” said Principal Vicente Salarda during an interview with DYRI RMN Iloilo.
Earlier, on Wednesday, 24 students from the school reported similar experiences.
Salarda speculated that the incidents might be related to the hot weather, or the possibility that students skipped breakfast, lacked sufficient sleep, or were under suppressed stress.
Salarda assured parents and students that the school has already taken measures to address the situation.
“I urged the parents and students to remain calm as we navigate through this. Let’s collaborate and seek guidance from experts,” he said./PN
