ILOILO – Police found 20 spent bullet shells from the crime scene along the national highway in Barangay Bancal, Alimodian where a 44-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Thursday night, Oct. 5.
Victim Carlo Vergavera Alleta, of Zone 3, Barangay Bo. Obrero, Lapuz, Iloilo City, was riding a motorcycle heading to Leon town.
Residents in the area heard the gunshots around 9:58 p.m.
Alimodian Municipal Police officer-in-charge Captain Chrysler John Ledesma said there were at least two gunmen and believes they intended to kill the victim.
“At least two suspects waylaid our victim, and with the number of gunshot wounds Alleta had, they really intended to kill the victim,” Ledesma said.
Recovered were 14 empty shells believed to be from a .9mm pistol and six from a .45.
“We will request the Regional Forensic Unit for a ballistic examination and cross-matching,” Ledesma added.
Alleta’s remains will be subjected to a post-mortem examination./PN
