BACOLOD City – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental has monitored a minor increase in the prices of chicken and eggs.
Price hikes are expected as the holiday season approaches, said Dr. Placeda Lemana, the PVO head.
Lemana noted the following price increases for eggs: small-sized by P0.25, medium-sized by P0.50, large-sized by P0.10, and extra-large-sized by P0.50.
PVO’s market monitoring also showed that Victorias City currently offers the highest priced dressed chicken at P225 per kilogram, while the most affordable is in Murcia town, priced at P170 per kilogram.
Lemana emphasized that despite the minor price hike, the province has a sufficient supply of chicken, eggs, and pork.
The price of pork remains stable, ranging from P210 to P300 per kilogram, according to PVO.
Last week, the Department of Agriculture (DA) reported that the daily egg supply remains stable at 36 million, though they noticed a minor price increase.
“While we anticipate a minor increase, our stable supply ensures that we don’t expect a steep price rise for eggs,” said DA assistant secretary Arnel de Mesa.
He added that the country’s commercial production of 36 million eggs per day sufficiently meets the demand.
“This aligns with the consumption of every Filipino, averaging about 160 eggs per year, or eight kilos of eggs per person annually. Thus, our level of production is commendable,” he said. (Watchmen Daily Journal/with a report from Philippine News Agency)/PN
