ILOILO City – Four men were arrested for illegal cockfighting in Zone 2, Barangay Balabago, Jaro, Iloilo City at around 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8.
The Jaro police caught “Jose,” 31; “Razel,” 39, of Democracia, Jaro; “Jomar,” 34, of Leganes, Iloilo; and “Jhoenel,” 21.
One suspect, identified by the alias “Raffy,” of Barangay Balabago, is currently at large. He allegedly initiated the cockfight.
“The suspects were engaging in illegal gambling for a long time, but residents in the area do not report to the police,” said Major Eduardo Siacon Jr., officer-in-charge of the Jaro police, in a Radyo Bandera Iloilo interview.
“Their activities were organized, and participants joined by invitation,” Siacon added.
All 10 cockfighting roosters, an improvised cockpit ring, and bet money were seized.
The arrested persons are now in the custody of the Jaro police and will face appropriate charges./PN
