Bacolod City holds flu vax drive amid surge in cases

BACOLOD City – Due to a recent surge in influenza cases, the City Health Office (CHO) has commenced a vaccination campaign.

The Department of Health (DOH) provided 20,000 doses of flu vaccines, said nurse Paulynne Sustento of the CHO.

The increase in flu cases, noticeable as the “ber” months begin, prompted the national government to augment the city’s vaccine supply.

The vaccines are available free of charge for those interested. They can be availed at the CHO during business hours or in their respective barangays.

From Oct. 9 to 12, the CHO organized a specialized vaccination drive at the Bacolod City Government Center, targeting senior citizens for both flu and pneumonia shots. While initially intended for city employees, the CHO accommodated walk-ins responding to the community’s requests.

Sustento clarified the flu vaccine is available for individuals 12 years and older. In contrast, the pneumonia vaccine is exclusively for senior citizens.

Sustento also emphasized the importance of adhering to health guidelines, maintaining proper hygiene, and consuming a nutritious diet to mitigate the risk of illnesses./PN
