BACOLOD City – The City Population Office (CPO) is conducting an intensive information and education campaign in schools and villages to reduce cases of teenage pregnancy here.
Acting CPO head Gilda Lluisma said they already held sessions in 10 public and private high schools, particularly in grades 9 and 10, during the Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) classes.
Lluisma added that the Department of Education has granted their request to hold an information drive in all public high schools here. For private schools, meanwhile, it depends on the management.
The AHD aims to reduce the incidence of adolescent pregnancy and prevent repeat pregnancies. It includes reaching out to parents and stakeholders to guide adolescents in forming responsible sexuality.
Aside from AHD, the CPO conducts parent-teen talks for responsible parenthood, parental communication on sexuality, and breaking generational gaps.
Meanwhile, the CPO is reaching out to out-of-school youths through the barangay and the Sangguniang Kabataan./PN
