ILOILO – A heated argument over a land lease agreement between two farmers escalated into a shooting incident in Barangay Gemumua Agahon, Passi City, at around 8 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15.
The 44-year-old Bobby Matucan, the owner of the disputed property, sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen from a .45 caliber firearm. He was referred to a hospital in Iloilo City for further treatment.
The suspect, 40-year-old Alwen Paduga, had been leasing a portion of Matucan’s land.
Master Sergeant Jason Supio, an investigator from the Passi City Police Station, said Matucan was fetching water from a nearby stream for his crops when Paduga suddenly fired without warning.
It was learned that the two had past disagreements, particularly when Matucan increased the lease amount, and both parties were summoned to the barangay for mediation.
The suspect was detained at Passi City Police Station for proper disposition./PN
