PAVIA, Iloilo — Police personnel here are puzzled whether it was an accident or foul play that led to the death of a tricycle passenger in Brgy. Pandac, this municipality yesterday morning.

Richard Sales was reported to have fallen from a tricycle and died as a result of severe injury from the said accident.

However, Insp. Rey Legaspi, the Pavia deputy police chief, said he could not yet conclude if Sales, 53, of Molo, Iloilo City died due to the accidentally or foul play.

Legaspi noticed that the victim had a big wound on his throat, hinting a possibility that he had been murdered.

“We are still waiting for the result of the autopsy report to know the cause of his death. It would determine whether it was purely accidental or inflicted,” Legaspi said.

Legaspi said the wound on Sales’ throat looked like a knife slash.

Tricycle driver Igmedio Cabrera of Brgy. Pandac claimed the victim was riding at the back of the tricycle when he accidentally fell.

They had allegedly come from the Smallville Complex for a birthday celebration. It was while they were going home about 4 a.m., Cabrera said, that the victim fell from the moving tricycle.

The tricycle driver admitted that they were drunk when the accident happened.

Cabrera is temporarily detained at the cell of Pavia Police Station./PN
