ILOILO City – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Region 6 advised the public to avoid using artificial intelligence (AI)-powered photo generator applications.

In a public advisory released on Monday, Oct. 23, the NBI-6 said the online trending apps pose privacy risks and identity theft enabling scams, adding that there have been reports of such cases already.

It cited in particular one application that requires users to submit a minimum of 10 personal photos to generate an enhanced portrait.

“This Al-driven technology has the potential to be maliciously exploited. It can be used to craft fake profiles leading to incidents of identity theft, data breaching, sexual exploitation, phishing and ransomware attacks, and other various malicious activities,” read part of the advisory.

The NBI-6 further advised the public to exercise caution when using AI photo-enhancing apps and be vigilant when sharing personal information online./PN
