ROXAS City — Vice Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras has expressed interest in running for governor in the 2016 national elections.
“Through God’s grace and your support, maybe we can have a chance to replace Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. as governor,” Contreras said in Hiligaynon during the induction of Federation of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines, Inc. officers recently.
Over a radio interview, Contreras said it is up to the public to determine if his performance and sincerity to serve are enough to make him qualified for the position.
“I am expressing my willingness [to run for governor], and I am asking if maybe I can serve at a different level: as chief executive,” he said.
Contreras has been vice governor since 2010.
He defeated former Roxas City councilor Mark Anthony Ortiz in 2010, while he ran for reelection unopposed in 2013.
Tanco is currently serving his last term as governor.
Both Contreras and Tanco belong to the Liberal Party./PN
