ANTIQUE – Nearly 5,000 Antiqueño sacadas, or migrant sugarcane workers, will be receiving financial assistance from Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio and Antique Gov. Rhodora Cadiao.
This Nov. 15 to 17, Duerte and Cadiao will be in Negros Occidental’s La Carlota City and the municipality of Isabela.
“I am happy to announce that no less than Vice President will join me on that date. She will distribute AICS (Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations) to almost 5, 000 Antiqueño sacadas in Negros,” said Cadiao during the Governor and Provincial Information Office (PIO) Hour with 104.5 Brigada San Jose-Antique.
Cadiao added that the initiative aligns with Duterte’s mandate as co-vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, adding that Antiqueño sacadas are vulnerable to recruitment by the New People’s Army.
“Sacada workers are being encouraged to raise arms against the government because they feel they are not well taken care of by the government,” Cadiao added. “We are going to let them know the government is there.”
The provincial government of Antique, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, will also distribute separate financial assistance in addition to the vice president’s.
This is the 9th visit of Cadiao.
“The provincial government does not neglect their needs, and we do our best to make them feel that the government takes care of them,” Cadiao earlier told Panay News.
On every visit, the governor brings rice, bread, family food packs, and lechon for sacada workers to make them feel remembered and loved this coming Christmas. (With a report from PIO LAVEGA, The Provincial Government of Antique)/PN
