THE Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) 2023 National Science, Technology and Innovation Week (NSTW) celebration prepares science, technology and innovation (STI)-themed exhibits in various sites within Iloilo City.

“Over the course of five days, the event will showcase the remarkable strides and accomplishments in the field of science, technology and innovation in the country. A range of engaging activities, including exhibitions, lectures and workshops, will emphasize the pivotal role of STI in fostering wealth creation, wealth protection, human well-being, and sustainability,” said Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, DOST VI regional director and member of 2023 NSTW Steering Committee.

Three STI-themed exhibits will be set up in Iloilo City: the Main S&T Exhibit at the Iloilo Convention Center (ICON), the Lawud: Marine S&T Exhibit at the JBL Maritime Vanguard docked along the Iloilo River and the Hinabul: Fibers and Textiles S&T Exhibit at the National Museum Western Visayas.

The Main S&T Exhibit will feature cluster exhibits of DOST’s efforts in addressing the country’s developmental goals including food security, health, education, and digital transformation, among others organized by the various DOST agencies. Interactive booths organized and managed by DOST agencies will be put up inside the ICON located in Megaworld Blvd., Mandurriao district.

Highlighting the technologies and innovations related to Blue Economy, the Lawud: Marine S&T Exhibit will be organized inside JBL Maritime Vanguard, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University’s (JBLFMU) training ship currently docked along the Iloilo River on Muelle Loney St., City Proper district. Lawud will include an immersive expo of marine and fisheries science researches and tech innovations by different higher education institutions (HEIs).

The Hinabul: Fibers and Textiles S&T Exhibit, on the other hand, will be housed at the National Museum Western Visayas on Bonifacio Drive, City Proper. Hinabul will showcase the technologies and innovations particularly in the field of local fibers and textiles on the second floor of the museum. There will also be interactive talks and activities for the participants.

Aside from exhibit booths, the sites will also host interactive talks and other activities to engage and interact with participants and visitors. Furthermore, this occasion will serve as a dynamic platform for collaboration and partnership-building among key sectors, such as the academic community, local government units (LGUs), and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs),
