ILOILO City – The Embassy of Romania in the Philippines is looking to promote Iloilo City as a prime tourist destination, and particularly highlighting the Dinagyang Festival.
The Ambassador of Romania, Her Excellency Răduţa Dana Matache, announced plans to feature the city at a booth during Romania’s National Day celebrations.
During a visit here in January, Matache experienced the vibrancy of the Dinagyang Festival firsthand.
She expressed the Embassy’s eagerness to boost tourism in the Philippines at a courtesy meeting with Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco at the Department of Tourism (DOT) office in Makati City on Oct. 24.
Ambassador Matache commended DOT’s efforts in promoting emerging tourist destinations in the Philippines.
“As diplomats, we are delighted and amazed by the country’s beauty. Understanding its unique aspects has inspired us to aid in promoting lesser-known, yet captivating regions,” she remarked.
Frasco welcomed the Ambassador’s proposal, emphasizing DOT’s readiness to collaborate with other nations.
Such partnerships are vital for enhancing Philippine tourism, focusing on increasing international arrivals and tapping into new, underexplored markets.
“Our Ambassadors play a crucial role in this endeavor, and we are eager to work with you in attracting more visitors from Romania to the Philippines,” said Frasco.
Furthermore, Frasco views this initiative as a conduit for cultural exchange.
“This goes beyond mere promotion. It’s an opportunity for our cultures to engage and share, allowing Romania to experience our heritage through our products, traditions, and festivals,” she added.
The burgeoning collaboration between the Philippines and Romania holds promise for mutual cultural appreciation and tourism growth. (With reports from DOT)/PN
