ILOILO City – In 11 months, 310 drug buy-bust operations by the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) from Jan. 27 to Nov. 13 this year has led to the confiscation of shabu valued at P50.2 million.
The city police’s antidrug campaign also resulted in the arrest of 329 street-level pushers and 110 high-value suspects, demonstrating a targeted approach in tackling both low and high-tier operatives in the drug trade.
A total of 7390.2926 grams of shabu, worth approximately P50,253,980, were seized in these operations, ICPO records showed.
Shabu is a colloquial term widely used in the Philippines and some other parts of Asia to refer to methamphetamine, a powerful and highly addictive stimulant drug.
It is often found in crystal form and can be consumed by smoking, snorting, injecting, or orally ingesting.
Shabu is known for its rapid onset of euphoria and its potential to cause serious health and social issues. Its illicit use and distribution are major concerns for law enforcement and public health agencies in regions where it is prevalent./PN
