ILOILO – The provincial government, through the General Services Office (GSO), continues preparations to transform the Iloilo provincial capitol grounds into a family destination this holiday season.

According to the GSO, Ilonggos could anticipate “something truly magical and extraordinary” as they transform the capitol into a winter wonderland.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. said the GSO, headed by Vicente B. Flores Jr., had added more attractions and designs.

Gusto naton nga destination sia sang mga pamilya nga nagapamasyar sa Christmas, makita niyo siguro nga may development dira. We want this to be for children and the family,” said Defensor.

The opening of lights is tentatively set for Dec. 1.

Why a Family Destination?

The governor envisioned connecting the capitol’s Christmas lights theme with the recently unveiled tourism slogan “Fun, Foodie, Friendly Iloilo.”

He said the province’s new tourism slogan has many variations, adding it can be “fun, foodie, friendly” with family or friends and even in festivals like the Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan.

The governor further said the slogan symbolizes the qualities of the Ilonggos, which translates to the enjoyment and satisfaction tourists experience when visiting Iloilo.

He cited the 1,763 fiestas and 43 festivals of the province and its beautiful beaches, mountains, and other natural and historical sites that contribute to the fun, thrill and excitement visitors will feel in the province.

More than the scenery, culture and festivities, Ilonggos are also natural foodies, noting that Iloilo stands out with its diverse gastronomy and delectable dishes that will satisfy the cravings of tourists.

“Friendly kay halin sang una the best asset sang Filipinos, especially in tourism, is that we are hospitable. Kita nga mga Ilonggo mabakud mag-amoma sang mga tawo. Amu na aton pwersa, maayo kita mag-atinder sang mga tawo,” Defensor said.

The new slogan also serves as the mantra for tourism under MoRProGRes Iloilo, or Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally Competitive, and Resilient Province of Iloilo./PN
