BACOLOD City – This city has made another significant investment to strengthen its capacity in disaster response after purchasing two safety air cushions and four vehicles.

Maria Laarni Pornan, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), said the safety air cushion is a life-saving equipment used to rescue people during fires in buildings and similar structures.

“Since there were two safety air cushions, the other one will be given to the Bureau of Fire Protection,” Pornan said.

The four vehicles will be useful in flood rescues and evacuation, as well as public transportation during transport strikes, the CDRRMO head explained.

Pornan is yet to reveal the cost of the newly acquired equipment, but said fund for the procurement was from CDRRMO’s 2023 budget.

A turnover of the newly acquired disaster equipment is scheduled for Dec. 4 at the Bacolod City Government Center./PN
