CAPIZ – The municipalities of Panay, Pilar, and President Roxas in the province of Capiz are now declared free from paralytic shellfish poison or toxic red tide. Shellfish from these towns are now safe for consumption.
This was announced by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources through shellfish bulletin No. 28, released on Dec. 1.
It is the first time since August this year that the areas of Pilar and President Roxas have become free from red tide.
Edmund Villaoscares, Municipal Fishery Coordinator of President Roxas, advised residents to eat shellfish in moderation and not be complacent, even in the absence of red tide toxin.
He also emphasized that permits should be presented by seafood vendors to ensure the safety of consumers and avoid causing inconvenience to neighboring communities.
Red tide toxin persists in the waters of Roxas City, Pontevedra, Ivisan, and Sapian./PN
