ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas is currently in stable condition after undergoing an angioplasty procedure on Saturday, Dec. 2.

His daughter, Raisa Treñas-Chu, conveyed the mayor’s gratitude for the prayers and well wishes received for his swift recovery.

Treñas, who celebrated his 67th birthday on Monday, Dec. has always valued transparency, according to Treñas-Chu.

Johns Hopkins Medicine describes angioplasty as a medical procedure used to open blocked coronary arteries resulting from coronary artery disease.

This procedure allows blood flow to be restored to the heart muscle without requiring open-heart surgery. Angioplasty can be performed either in emergency situations, such as during a heart attack, or as elective surgery if heart disease is strongly suspected.

Before the angioplasty, Mayor Treñas had contracted shingles and underwent quarantine. Follow-up checkups and baseline laboratory tests were conducted once he no longer exhibited symptoms.

His family doctor recommended additional testing, including an angiogram to assess his heart’s condition. This led to the discovery of a blocked artery in the mayor’s heart, prompting the decision to opt for angioplasty over medication.

Mayor Treñas has since been moved to a regular hospital room and is expected to be discharged this week to continue his recovery at home. Treñas-Chu indicated that he might resume work in a week or two./PN
