ILOILO – The Iloilo Provincial Hospital (IPH) in Barangay Rumbang, Pototan town has been accredited as a Level II health facility by the Department of Health (DOH), making it the first province-run hospital to achieve this status.
The accreditation was announced by DOH Region 6 director Dr. Adriano Suba-an.
The unveiling of IPH’s Level II health facility marker was held on Dec. 15. The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Provincial Administrator Dr. Raul Banias, 3rd District’s Cong. Lorenz Defensor, Uswag Ilonggo party-list’s Rep. Jojo Ang, Pototan’s Mayor Rafael Enrique Lazaro, Provincial Board member Ramon Sullano, Iloilo Provincial Hospital chief Dr. Alberto Cordero, and Department of Health assistant regional director Dr. Maria Sophia Pulmones.
Dr. Cordero welcomed the hospital’s upgrade from a Level I facility, which offered primarily consulting services, to a fully departmentalized hospital that has 24/7 major departments manned by skilled doctors in various specialties.
The departments now include Surgery/Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Obstetrics Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Anesthesia, Radiology, and an Outpatient Department (OPD).
The hospital boasts advanced facilities such as an adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Level III Clinical Laboratory, Respiratory Units, and a Radiology Department equipped with a Mobile X-ray, CT Scan, 2D Echo, and Laparoscopy Machine.
Other features include a COVID-19 molecular laboratory, an isolation ward with negative pressure, a high-risk pregnancy unit, laparoscopic surgery equipment, and a 75KW solar photovoltaic rooftop system.
As a Level II hospital, Cordero said IPH is committed to providing accessible, advanced services that focus on compassionate care, wellness, healing, and improving the quality of life.
Dr. Banias lauded the hospital’s upgrade as a testament to the staff’s hard work and commitment to excellence under Dr. Cordero’s leadership.
Managed by the Iloilo Provincial Government, the Iloilo Provincial Hospital operates with a 175-bed capacity and an occupancy rate of 88.54 percent. It serves the municipalities of Dingle, Dueñas, Leganes, Mina, New Lucena, Pototan, and Zarraga.
