ILOILO – Two farmers were hacked dead in Barangay Cabalaunan, Miag-ao town over the weekend.
The victims were Javier Fare, 53, and Melvin Ceniza, 45, both residents of the village.
Miag-ao police investigation revealed that a commotion first ensued at a birthday party in the village’s Sitio Anoy on Saturday night, Dec. 16, where the victims and the two suspects were present.
Javier Fare, who later fell asleep near a newly harvested palay, was approached and hacked by the suspects identified by the police as Jomarie Pamintahon and Joemer Fare around 9:32 p.m.
He sustained multiple hack wounds on his body and died while being treated at a hospital.
Ceniza, meanwhile, sustained hack wounds on his neck and face, and was found buried under the rice straws, on Sunday morning, Dec. 17, near the area where Javier Fare was attacked. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared “dead on arrival” by the attending physician.
Miag-ao police had arrested Joemer Fare while Pamintahon remained at large as of this writing.
The police were looking into an old grudge as the possible motive in the death of the two farmers./PN
