ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) has stepped up its anti-littering drive across the city this holiday season.

Engr. Neil Ravena, head of CENRO, said three teams composed of 28 personnel were deployed particularly in the downtown area:

* apprehension team (eight personnel)

* information, education and communication (IEC) team (eight personnel)

* two flushing teams (six personnel each)

Ravena said the IEC personnel are helping vendors regarding the proper disposal of garbage from street food and others being sold in the downtown area.

CENRO had placed 72 waste bins around City Proper district and 12 in Jaro plaza.

It also designated garbage collection sites and time.

Ravena added that urinating in public places is also included in the anti-littering campaign.

Since deploying the aforementioned three teams, CENRO recorded an average of seven to eight apprehensions per day.

“We expect nga ang violators normally mga transients coming from provinces nga nagakadto diri sa city. And the reason why naga-IEC gid kita kay wala kita gapabaya nga apprehension lang. Ginadunganan ta sang IEC para indi lang panakop kundi ma-educate man ang tawo para may change in behavior sa mga naga-shopping diri sa syudad sang Iloilo,” Ravena said.

Flushing teams, meanwhile, are tasked to clean and flush the untidy areas in the city./PN
