BACOLOD City – The celebration of Christmas in this city was generally peaceful, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reported yesterday morning.
Lieutenant Colonel Ronnie Brillo, spokesperson for BCPO, said they have not recorded any serious incidents since Dec. 16 when the nine-day traditional Simbang Gabi began.
During Christmas Day, Brillo said they have also not recorded any firecracker injuries.
He said BCPO director Colonel Noel Aliño has ordered all police commanders in the city to have their personnel conduct regular patrols together with barangay tanods this holiday season.
The patrols are also aimed at preventing not just criminal elements who are aiming to take advantage of the merry-making, but also to prevent incidents of illegal discharge of a firearm to prevent stray bullet incidents.
Brillo again warned the city’s residents who will be using firecrackers during the holiday period not to purchase and use illegal firecrackers such as boga or PVC cannon.
He also urged residents to only use firecrackers on areas designated by barangay officials. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
