GUIMARAS – Barangay Agsanayan in the municipality of Buenavista is the most child-friendly village in the island province of Guimaras.
The recognition was made during the Child-Friendly Local Governance (CFLG) Awarding Ceremony on Dec. 27 at the provincial covered gym in Barangay San Miguel, Jordan.
Barangay Agsanayan also bagged the following awards: Best in Planning and Policy Formulation, Best in Resource Allocation/Utilization, and Best in Documentation.
Barangay Tanag in the same town was declared the runner-up and took home P100,000. The village was also named Best in Education, Best in Institution Building, and Best in Child Participation.
Now in its 20th year of recognizing the efforts of the municipalities and barangays, Gov. JC Rahman Nava, MD, said the province has done a lot in the field of the child-friendly movement.
“We made big strides as far as the child-friendly movement is concerned. Not only locally but also on the national level. Indi langu-langu ang pagpaninguha sang mga barangay kag kabanwahanan para ma-achieve ang status subong sa Guimaras,” Nava said.
Thirty-four barangays were assessed by the Provincial Inter-Agency Monitoring Task Force during the conduct of the CFLG Evaluation in November 2023. They were evaluated in six areas: Planning and Policy Formulation, Resource Allocation, Service Delivery, Institution Building, Child Participation, and Community Participation.
Of these barangays, 13 were from the municipality of Sibunag, which includes Alegria, Ayangan, Bubog, Concordia, Dasal, Maabay, Millan, Sabang, San Isidro, Sebaste, Ravina, Oracon, and Tanglad.
The ten barangays from Buenavista town that underwent the evaluation process were Agsanayan, Avila, Daragan, Mabini, Navalas, Nazaret, San Isidro, San Nicolas, San Roque, and Tanag.
Barangays Balcon Maravilla, Buluangan, and Espinosa in Jordan; La Paz, Poblacion, San Roque, and Tando in Nueva Valencia; Cabano, San Enrique, Sebario, and Suclaran in the municipality of San Lorenzo were likewise assessed.
The non-winning barangays each received a plaque and P5,000./PN
