ILOILO – A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) kagawad in Dumangas town is currently in police custody after an accidental gun discharge that killed an eight-year-old child.
According to the Dumangas Municipal Police, the SK kagawad identified as “Radnie,” had reportedly taken a 12-gauge homemade shotgun into his room at around 3 p.m. on Jan. 2, when it slipped from his grasp and discharged, hitting the child who was playing inside their home.
Police Master Sergeant Efren Gonzaga Jr., in a Panay News interview, said the child was initially brought to the town’s Ramon Duremdes District Hospital but was later referred to Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City where the eight-year-old died of a gunshot wound to the head.
A piece of cloth believed to have been used by the suspect to clean the crime scene was recovered by the authorities.
In response to the incident, the Dumangas police swiftly initiated a pursuit operation and successfully apprehended the suspect./PN
