MANILA – Matthew Wright caught fire from the three-point area as Kyoto Hannaryz scored an 81-75 upset over Nagasaki Velca in the Japan B.League Division 1 on Wednesday night at the Sasebo Gymnasium.
The former Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters gunner connected five triples to end up with 24 points as the Hannaryz snapped a two-game losing skid to improve to a 9-20 win-loss slate.
Charles Jackson chipped in a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, Kevin Jones contributed 15 markers, while Yuta Okada had 11 assists to go with seven points and three rebounds for Kyoto.
Yudai Baba finished with 17 points to lead the Velca, Matt Bonds added 15 markers, while Jarrell Brantley and Koya Kobari had 14 and 10, respectively. They dropped to a 14-15 record.
Meanwhile, Kai Sotto managed to contribute offensively despite a limited playing time as Yokohama B-Corsairs defeated Shinshu Brave Warriors, 81-71, over at the White Ring.
The 7-foot-3 Filipino center finished with nine points and five rebounds in almost 13 minutes of action as the B-Corsairs returned to their winning ways for a 13-16 win-loss record.
Yuki Kawamura top-scored for the B-Corsairs with 32 points, including four three-point conversions, to go with six assists and three rebounds, while Jarrod Uthoff added 15 markers.
Rhon Jay Abarrientos finished with 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while Filipino-Japanese center Matthew Aquino ended with three points in two minutes of action for Shinshu, which dropped to 5-24.
Bobby Ray Parks Jr. contributed four points, three rebounds, and three assists as Nagoya Diamond Dolphins (17-12) prevailed over Ryukyu Golden Kings (20-9), 77-75, at the Dolphins Arena.
Yutaro Suda played the hero’s role for the Diamond Dolphins as he knocked down the go-ahead three-pointer for a 77-75 edge with 11 seconds left. The Golden Kings had a chance to tie the game but Jack Cooley missed his two free throw attempts./PN
