ILOILO City – The chief of the Police Regional Office 6’s (PRO-6) Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) was awarded with heroism medal in recognition of his unit’s successful seizure of P40.8 million worth of shabu.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr., Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. and Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin, executive secretary of the Office of the President, conferred the award to RDEU-6 chief Captain Glen Soliman during the 33rd PNP anniversary celebration in Camp Crame on Monday, Jan. 29.
Soliman said it’s an honor for him and his men that their antidrug efforts were acknowledged.
He added this was the second medal he received; the first one was in 2022 for the seizure of two kilos of shabu.
“We are thankful sa PNP organization kay nakita nila ang aton paghimakas sa pagtapna sang drugs. I received medal in behalf of my men. Rest assured that we will not stop fighting against illegal drugs,” Soliman said.
Bersamin, meanwhile, expressed his profound appreciation and sincere acknowledgment of the awardees’ personal and professional achievements as members of the PNP.
PRO-6 director Brigadier General Sidney Villaflor also lauded the RDEU-6.
“We congratulate our RDEU personnel for a job well done. It only showed the dedication and sincerity in the fight against drugs,” he said.
On Dec. 17, 2023, RDEU-6 led by Soliman seized P40.8 million worth of shabu from drug suspects Miklyn Acosta and certain “Koikoi” in Sitio Siga2, Barangay Don T. Lutero East in Janiuay, Iloilo.
The approximately six kilograms of shabu – the biggest single-operation confiscation of illegal drugs in Western Visayas in 2023 – was intended for distribution last Christmas season and Dinagyang Festival in January, police said./PN
