ILOILO City – As of Jan. 31, 14,473 business establishments in this city have renewed their permits – 1,900 higher than the 12,593 recorded in the same period in 2023.

The Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion (LEDIP) Office on Thursday, Feb. 1, also revealed that 219 new businesses have secured permits.

LEDIP Office head Velma Lao said this indicates a good, vibrant economy in the city and that businessmen are excited to do business because they foresee business growth.

Aside from the good business-enabling environment, Lao attributed the accomplishment to the campaign of Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, which included the opening of a one-stop-shop in four offsite payment centers in addition to the city hall.

To recall, the city government’s payment centers, both offsite and onsite, were opened on weekends until January 20, the deadline for the renewal of business permits for 2024, to accommodate those who would renew their business permits.

These offsite payment centers are located in SM City Iloilo, Festive Walk Mall at Megaworld, The Atrium, and Marymart Center.

The services provided in these centers include issuance of renewal and new business permits and other government fees, issuance of community tax certificate or cedula, health cards, Bureau of Fire Protection and tourism clearances, persons with disability and senior citizen cards, birth and death certificates, and marriage licenses./PN
