ILOILO City – In an unprecedented initiative, 260 Filipino-Canadians have been cordially invited to experience the warmth of the Philippines amidst the chilly Canadian winter.
This has brought together a group of adventurous souls to explore the enchanting beauty of Manila, Iloilo, Guimaras, Cebu, and Bohol from February 18 to 27 as an initiative of the Philippine Foreign Service Posts in Canada, in cooperation with the Department of Tourism.
The program seeks to promote cultural interchange, fortify relationships between the Philippines and the Filipino-Canadian community, and highlight the diverse range of Philippine customs, food, tourism destinations, and cultural heritage.
Art Parreño, terminal area manager of the Iloilo Airport, welcomed the delegation headed by Philippine consuls general Angelica C. Escalona (Toronto), Zaldy Patron (Calgary), Arlene Magno (Vancouver), and Honorary Consul Ronald Opina (Winnipeg).
“I am looking forward to see beautiful places here in Iloilo and Guimaras, and of course, I want to taste the different kinds of food here,” remarked Consul General Angelica Escalona.
The itinerary for the Winter Escapade 2024 includes visits to Guimaras, renowned for its sweet mangoes and pristine beaches; Iloilo, a province rich in history and culture; Cebu, home to vibrant festivals and historical landmarks; and Bohol, famous for its Chocolate Hills and unique tarsiers.
Apart from exploring the picturesque locales, the participants will have the chance to savor the diverse and delectable Filipino cuisine and participate in cultural activities.
The Winter Escapade 2024, which provides the Filipino-Canadian guests a reprieve from the Canadian winter, is a testament to the enduring ties between the Philippines and Canada.
As the group immerses themselves in the beauty and warmth of the Philippines, this unique cultural exchange promises to be a milestone in the ongoing story of friendship and connection between the two nations./PN
