MANILA – University of Santo Tomas Junior Golden Tigresses standout Jann Ysabelle Chua has decided to remain with the España-based campus for college.
The Bacolod City-native outside hitter was announced as the newest recruit of the UST Golden Tigresses for the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament next year.
“The Golden Tigresses scored another commitment as graduating Junior Tigress and opposite hitter Ysa Chua picks UST for college,” stated in the team’s Facebook page.
“Can’t wait for you to experience a louder version of the Go USTe cheer, Ysa! Salamat for staying!” it added in a post on Thursday morning.
Chua was a former standout of St. John’s Institute-Bacolod before she transferred to Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts where her volleyball career has blossomed further.
After her fruitful stint with the Thunderbolts, Chua transferred to the Junior Golden Tigresses for senior high school and became part of team’s rotation.
During the just-concluded UAAP Season 86 high school girls volleyball tournament, Chua and the Junior Golden Tigresses ended at third place after bowing to National University Lady Bullpups in the semis.
The Bacolodnon volleybelle is the second Junior Golden Tigresses to move up to UST’s senior team aside from fellow outside hitter Bien Arasan.
Entering the UST’s senior team next year, Chua will be the second Negrense volleyball player in the squad apart from Silay City-native setter Cassie Carballo.
The Golden Tigresses stated in their Facebook page that they will announce three more Junior Golden Tigresses players who will move up to the senior ranks in the coming days./PN
