ILOILO – A poultry farm in Sitio Agpangan, Barangay Cabilauan, New Lucena town was engulfed in flames yesterday.

Initial data disclosed by farm attendants revealed that Lozanes Poultry Farm had recently added between 30,000 and 40,000 five-day-old chicks, all of which were consumed by the blaze, in addition to around 700 sacks of feed and other poultry-raising-related equipment.

The poultry farm was raising 45-day-old chickens.

The attendants also alleged that the fire might have started from a ground-circuit issue at the back of the facility.

Upon noticing smoke at approximately 12:30 p.m., attempts were made to suppress the fire using fire extinguishers, but the situation was found to be beyond control.

Immediately, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) was notified and dispatched to the scene. The flames were completely extinguished over three hours later, at around 3:55 p.m.

Meanwhile, efforts to gather information from Engr. Loue Lozanes, the owner of the poultry farm, were unsuccessful yesterday. He was reportedly too distraught by the incident.

The total estimated cost of the damage has yet to be determined as the BFP continues its investigation as of this writing./PN
